Mourning Libraries
PA libraries may have to deal with a 50% cut in funding. Some Lancaster libraries are "mourning" that loss by showing how the loss of funding could affect the library.
"There were black decorations everywhere. Half of the computers were covered, and many of the bookcases have been taped off."
The libraries are concerned about having to cut back on new resources, inability to replace lost and worn books, inability to fix and replace broken computers, and the potential reduction of hours and staffing cuts. The article doesn't mention this, but I'm sure there is also a fear of inability to replace outdated reference books and to continue essential database subscriptions.
Ah, the wonderful world of Rendell. Aren't there any welfare programs he could cut, instead of library funds?
